A Congratulations to Little Bird

It’s always fun for me when a client or former photography subject has a big success.

I’ve known Marshall Kirkpatrick for probably close to ten years now as part of the Portland tech community, and I had the pleasure of photographing him on stage at the 2012 Demo Day for the Portland Incubator Experiment.

He was pitching Little Bird, a company he founded along with two cofounders. Today they announced they’d been acquired by Sprinklr which will help them grow their platform for influencer discovery in the enterprise space. In looking at my photo archives, turns out I captured the three of them sitting next to each other at another event in a candid audience shot.

Portland Incubator Experiment Demo Day 2014

The Portland Incubator Experiment recently wrapped up another class of startup business development, with company founders giving presentations to an audience of investors, mentors, and the public. Portland’s Gerding Theater at the Armory was filled with interested parties as each company shared its product, service, and story.

You can view the full set of images on Flickr; here are a selection of favorites.

PIE Demo Day – Gerding Theater at the Armory

Earlier this month I had the opportunity to photograph the Demo Day for the third class of startups to “graduate” from the Portland Incubator Experiment program. At Demo Day, company founders have several minutes onstage to tell the story of their company and their product, pitching it to an audience that includes potential investors, tech press, and the public. The stakes are high and it’s always an interesting event to see the stories told (I previously photographed the first and second PIE Demo Days as well).

Portland Incubator Experiment Demo Day

A couple weeks ago, I photographed the Demo Day for the second class of startups that moved through the Portland Incubator Experiment (PIE) program. Six companies took the stage at the Gerding Theater at the Armory to share information about their companies and products to an audience of investors, media, and the public. Here are a few images from the event; there’s also a full set of photos on Flickr that are released under Creative Commons licensing.

Startup Business Portrait: VendScreen’s Paresh Patel

During the inaugural class of Portland Incubator Experiment startups, I had the opportunity to create photographs of quite a few people that founded and build startup businesses around a variety of ideas, technologies, and in the case of VendScreen, high-tech devices that can revolutionize the vending machine industry.

Paresh Patel of VendScreen

Early in the PIE process, I created this portrait of VendScreen CEO Paresh Patel with a sample device. I was pleased to find out this week that VendScreen will be receiving several awards at an industry trade show this month (more first-place awards than ny other vendor). Well done, VendScreen!
